Alan Collier

Alan Stanley COLLIER

Markyate born Alan won England schoolboy and youth caps before signing for Luton Town as a 17 year old in 1955 but found his way blocked by international goalkeepers Bernard Streten and Ron Baynham at Kenilworth Road.
When Baynham fractured his skull early in the 1960/61 campaign Alan was unable to take advantage as he was suffering from a broken arm at the time. Realising that it was not going to happen for him at Luton he moved on to Chelmsford and then to Bedford in time to star in their epic run in the F.A.Cup in 1965/66.
After hanging up his gloves, Alan worked in the printing trade in Luton and, in retirement, moved to Reading to be near to his grandchildren.
