Arthur ROE

Born in South Normanton, Derbyshire in 1892, Arthur was playing football for local colliery sides when, following a tip-off, he was invited to Luton in the summer of 1914.
Initially loaned out to Luton Clarence, he soon made a first team spot his own as a clever and scrupulously fair inside forward before the Great War brought an end to proceedings.
Wounded in France during the War, Arthur was back fully fit once hostilities had ceased and became a mainstay in the side, by now converted to left-half where his performances were compared to the great Bob Hawkes due to his preference to not use brute force and ignorance. .After being awarded a benefit match against Watford he was surprisingly offered a chance at Arsenal in January 1925 but he made only one appearance for the Gunners before winding down his career at Bournemouth and Mansfield Town.
Arthur passed away in 1960.
