Bert Jackson

Bertram (Bert) Harold JACKSON

Born in Manchester in 1882, Bert was a left-back who had caught the eye of Manchester City but the Town nipped in to bring him to Kenilworth Road in September 1906.
He started the 1906-07 season in the first eleven at right back but was said to be ‘quick but naïve in his positioning’ and eventually lost his place to the more experienced John Hogg. Taking advantage of an injury to Hogg, Bert had a run of games towards the end of that campaign when watching scouts from City offered him the chance to return to Manchester.
Bert enjoyed three years as a regular at City before finishing his career at Stalybridge and passing away in 1940.
