Bill Harper

William (Bill) George HARPER

Born in Bothwell, near Motherwell in 1900, Bill was a very competent goalkeeper who was playing first division football with Sunderland at the age of 21.
Leaving for Manchester City in 1923 and then on to Crystal Palace he was regarded as vastly experienced by the time he came to Luton in October 1926 to replace the injured Harry Mingay.
He made his League debut immediately and remained ever present for the rest of the campaign but then decided to opt for part-time football and joined Weymouth before returning to Scotland to turn out for Callender Athletic.
