John PICKERING

Born in Newcastle in 1884, John was playing for Willington Athletic as a stylish inside-forward when he was picked up by Bury in 1904.
After making only five appearances in 1904-05 he joined the Town in the summer of 1905, making his debut in the first game to be played at Kenilworth Road against Plymouth, and soon became the team’s ‘playmaker’.
One of the first names on the teamsheet in his first season, a run of injuries in his second cut back his effectiveness and appearances.
Leaving Luton in 1907, John had unsuccessful spells at New Brompton and Bury before ending up where it all started at Willington.
