Joseph (Joe) BLACKETT

Luton secretary/manager Charles Green did well to bring the experienced left back from Middlesbrough to Kenilworth Road in 1905.
Born in Newcastle in 1875, Joe started his career with Newcastle United before enjoying long spells at Wolves and Middlesbrough during which time he was regularly tipped for international honours.
Making his Luton debut against Plymouth for the opening game at Kenilworth Road in September 1905 he remained ever present that season leading to Leicester Fosse paying £115 to Middlesbrough for his services to great dismay. In those days the Football League did not recognise the Southern League so his registration was still held by Boro.
He helped Fosse to promotion before becoming a successful player/manager at Rochdale.
