Phil Boersma

Philip (Phil) BOERSMA

After signing professional for Liverpool in 1966, midfielder Phil helped the Reds to lift the League Championship and UEFA Cup in 1972/73 before moving to Middlesbrough for £72,000 in December 1975.
Luton Town manager Harry Haslam lost out to Boro that time but eventually got his man in August 1977 in exchange for £35,000. A quick and skilful player, Phil netted some memorable goals for the Hatters, non more so that the diving header which saw off Brighton in front of the ‘Match of the Day’ cameras in December 1977.
After one season with Luton, new manager David Pleat transferred Phil to Swansea where a broken ankle ended his career.
Phil then assisted Graeme Souness at various clubs.
