Ron Futcher

Ronald (Ron) FUTCHER

Older by 20 minutes than twin Paul, Ron was signed by Luton at the same time as his brother. Unfairly regarded as a makeweight, Ron actually made his Hatters debut before Paul, coming on as a substitute against Sheffield United in November 1974.
His full debut is written in Luton folklore though, as he scored the only goal at table toppers Ipswich and followed it up with a hat-trick against Wolves two days later.
Telepathy with Paul meant that he was always on the end of his long balls out of defence and the Futcher double act graced Kenilworth Road until Ron joined his brother at Maine Road in 1978.
Ron then enjoyed a long League career and was still involved in the game taking up a coaching post in Tampa Bay.
